About this opportunity
The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) has opened applications for the 2027 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for its Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc-HPE). The fully funded pathway is for young Africans building careers in health professions education, academic leadership and health education policy. The 18-month programme covers three semesters and 180 credits, combining online learning with intensive in-person sessions at UGHE in Rwanda, so working professionals can take part. Modules include curriculum and course design, innovative teaching methods, assessment, clinical teaching, global health equity, programme evaluation, educational research, and a practicum or thesis. Scholars also receive leadership, mentorship and personal development support. The wider UGHE and Mastercard Foundation partnership aims to fund 500 master's places over 10 years. Young women, refugees and displaced young people, and persons with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. There is no certificate or diploma exit award, so scholars must complete the full programme.
Requirements
Aged 35 or younger in the year of application (exceptions for applicants with disabilities)
Citizen and resident of an African country, or refugee status in an African country
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field from an accredited institution
Do not already hold a Master's degree
If employed: signed and stamped employer letter confirming support and time to attend
Also good to have
- Experience in teaching, supervision or educational leadership in health-related higher education (early-career applicants can show teaching potential)
- Young women, refugees or displaced young people, and persons with disabilities are encouraged
